Travel Diary: Vaxholm

Travel Diary: Vaxholm

Exactly one week ago, I took a day trip to Vaxholm together with my boyfriend and our puppy Stina. Vaxholm is an island in the archipelago which is about an hour away from Stockholm. We got there by bus from the subway station Danderyds sjukhus but it’s possible to travel there by boat as well. We didn’t take the boat since Stina hadn’t been on one before and we didn’t want her first time to be so long if she…

Hittaut – Stockholm, Sweden

Hittaut – Stockholm, Sweden

Last week, I tried a new activity that suits me so well. It was actually my mom who told me about Hittaut which is an initiative from Sweden’s orientation society to inspire people get out and explore more of their surroundings. It’s basically just a big scavenger hunt where you search for checkpoints with codes all around Stockholm with help from either a physical map or an app and it’s so much fun! Last week I had some time to…

Hammarbybacken – Stockholm, Sweden

Hammarbybacken – Stockholm, Sweden

One of my goals this year was to get better at exploring my hometown, Stockholm. With five months into 2019, I have to say that I’ve been working hard with that goal and already found some new favorites – and one of them is Hammarbybacken. Hammarbybacken is located on the south side of the city and is a big ski slope in the winter and a popular hill for interval training and bike riding during the summer. Hammarbybacken is one…

The Royal Mounds – Uppsala, Sweden

The Royal Mounds – Uppsala, Sweden

It feels like I took these photos a lifetime ago, but I thought it was time to write some more about when I visited The Royal Mounds in February. A friend had told me about The Royal Mounds and it’s area with archaeological remains and I obviously had to go there when I took a day trip to Uppsala on my own. Since I’m the type of person who thinks it’s possible to walk everywhere I decided to skip the…

Storforsen – Älvsbyn, Sweden

Storforsen – Älvsbyn, Sweden

During my visit to Boden in April, I finally got to visit Storforsen in Älvsbyn for the first time in probably 20 years. Storforsen is one of the biggest streams in all of Europe and is a 5km part of the 410km long river Piteåälven. Its usual water flow is around 250 m³/sek and it never freezes, even though the water can get as low as -40° degrees during wintertime! It looks really spectacular, but the most impressing thing most honestly…

Travel Diary: Tystberga & Trosa

Travel Diary: Tystberga & Trosa

Last weekend I went on a little road trip to both Tystberga and Trosa. This trip was actually my mothers birthday present this year. She’s known as “crazy cow lady” due to her love of cows and she’s been talking for ages about visiting a “kosläpp” which is when the cows get to run out from the barn for the first time in the spring after being inside all winter. Said and done, my brother and I organized a trip…

Travel Diary: Boden Day 5

Travel Diary: Boden Day 5

When we got back from the cabin we had one more day to spend in Boden. We started the day by going to my cousin’s house because I was going to do a sibling photo shoot with her two kids. Yes, the little guy I did my first smash the cake photo shoot with last year has got a little sister! Kids are never easy to photograph, especially when there’s two of them, haha. We photographed for about 20 minutes,…

Uppsala Cathedral – Uppsala, Sweden

Uppsala Cathedral – Uppsala, Sweden

One of the biggest tourist attractions in Uppsala has to be Uppsala Cathedral. I took a day trip to Uppsala in February and the cathedral was obviously on top of the list of things I wanted to see. The cathedral was built in the 13th century and has been used for the coronation for almost every Swedish monarch since then. The cathedral is also the final resting place for famous Swedes as Gustav Vasa and Carl von Linné which means…

Travel Diary: Boden Day 2-4

Travel Diary: Boden Day 2-4

I spent most of my Easter in my aunt’s cabin in the woods. We were 10 people living in the cabin during the weekend, but we were a lot more people during the days since many came and visit. This meant that I spent a lot of time just hanging by the fire with friends and relatives I see far too rarely. When I was younger I hated going out to that cabin, but now I just love it! I…

Travel Diary: Boden & Älvsbyn Day 1

Travel Diary: Boden & Älvsbyn Day 1

During Easter, I finally had the opportunity to travel again. Me, my brother and my mother took the night train from Stockholm and traveled to our relatives in Boden in the northern part of Sweden. One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to stop flying within Sweden and this was actually the first time I went to Boden with the train since 1999 (Dad, correct me if I’m wrong!) and now I’m really wondering why. We got on…
